I’m a developmental editor who helps facilitate the magic of language.

I work with businesses, writers, and students to help them discover and clarify their core message.

Does your business copy need a fresh voice? I look at copy with an eye for grammar, but always from the customer's viewpoint. As a copy editor, I want to know: Do I understand what this product is? Is it clear to me how the customer is going to benefit? I am a meticulous, detail-oriented proofreader and copy editor with a proven track record in the advertising and retail industries. I’m comfortable in fast-turnaround environments (agency and corporate) and have a collaborative and flexible working style.

Do you have a story or memoir calling out to be told? Does your almost-finished book need fresh eyes and a compassionate, analytical editor? Are you entangled with and thrown off by the persistent inner critic that shadows all writers? I am a developmental editor—a wordsmith who supports writers in finding their way through judgment and fear to uncover the heart of the story. I work hand-in-hand with authors to help them find clarity, inspiration, and spontaneity. My most recent books as an editor include Main Street (How a City's Heart Connects Us All) by Mindy Thompson Fullilove, MD; Dopefiend's Redemption by Jim Gilbert; and The Lioness in Winter (Writing an Old Woman's Life) by Ann Burack-Weiss.

Are you looking for a writing class? I offer a virtual and recurring 10-week memoir writing class at the University of Orange in New Jersey which has had great success in freeing and guiding students to find their own unique voice. It’s always amazing how much remarkable writing comes to life where there is less expectation and a free, creative process.

It is difficult to find words to adequately describe the editing skills of Susan Hasho. She has an amazing ability to extract harmony from disorder in a manner that utilizes the skills of the writer. Moreover, Susan has innate qualities that add dimension to her work—kindness, sense of humor, and capacity for listening to and respecting others.

What’s Your Story? A Memoir Writing Class
University of Orange, NJ
A 10-week class starting January 12, 2024
In this class, we will take on questions intended to help students write in an atmosphere of curiosity, trust, and safety: What do you want to say? Is there something you’re afraid to say? What happens when you listen to yourself? Are you entitled to write? Can you write about what you don’t know?
